What’s the pitch?
I’m in the early stages of developing a pitch about the future of
narrative/nonfiction writing conferences as a way to promote the
University of North Texas’ Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference.
With the Nieman Conference on Narrative Journalism suspended due to
budget constraints, organizers of writing conferences across the
country will be trying to standout and attract former Nieman
participants. The questions then become:
What is the role of writing conferences as the journalism industry
faces turbulent times?
What changes do conference organizers need to make to standout and
attract journalists?
What are the elite conferences around the country, and what makes them standout?
(and many more)
I’d love to hear from promoters of other writing conferences,
particularly conferences sponsored by a college or university. I’d
also love to hear journalists’ thoughts on these questions.
Thank you!
